My experience at FRA prepared me for everything, frankly. With each stage of life, this dawns on me anew.

FRA taught me how to STUDY... When I reached college, not only was I versed in a variety of subjects, I was equipped with study habits that applied to any subject. Freshman year, I watched many of my peers drop (out) like flies, while I found myself soaring, inexplicably, as I was by no means the high school valedictorian. Only then did I realize just how well-prepared I was for college—how well-prepared most FRA grads are.

FRA taught me how to LIVE... When I graduated college and entered into the working world, the transition was smoother than it would have been had I not been endowed with life skills during my fourteen formative years at FRA—yet another way in which an FRA education goes above and beyond the curriculum. Plus, I met a great group of friends along the way, many of whom were guests, if not groomsmen in my wedding.

FRA taught me how to TEACH... Even now, when planning a class at USC, I often draw upon the modes of instruction I found most effective as a student. I could cite many dynamic teachers from my alma mater, but the first that comes to mind is...

2010 Turner Fellowship Program: Malone Wayland Martha O'Bryan Center

I absolutely loved my time during the Turner Fellowship. Through my experience at the Martha O'Bryan Center, I learned the truth about the projects. People who live in the James A. Cayce Homes and in any other government housing are not the lazy, uneducated people that the upper classes usually stereotype them as. Most of the time, they are hardworking individuals who have just encountered true hardships in their lives. They are working diligently to earn their GED and provide for their families.

I also learned that in order to help people you don't have to travel to a third world country. There are many, many people living right in Nashville who need our help. Lastly, I realized how much I enjoy helping others. I went into the Turner Fellowship thinking that I was going to serve and bless others, but in the end, I was the one who was actually blessed.
