Admission to college is a process, not an event. It begins the moment a student starts school. Every class that a student takes is a building stone along the way toward college. In addition, every opportunity for travel, to develop athletically, or to experience the fine arts is laying the foundation for future growth. A student should never miss the chance to develop his capabilities or to learn new things.
It is a common misconception that college admissions only concerns high school seniors. Although it can be done at the last minute of senior year, waiting until then greatly limits a student’s options; he may find that many colleges require certain courses or test scores for admissions which may not be available.
Preparation is the key to admission to the college of choice, and the college or university in which a student chooses to enroll can have a dramatic impact on his life. The entire process of college admissions is an important (and expensive) process which must be started early.
Research and preparation is one of the major steps in the college admissions process, and it begins long before senior year. In fact, how a student performs in elementary school can have a direct bearing on how well he will perform in later schooling. Strong skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic through the early years of school will pay many dividends later on. As students are selected for advanced classes in the middle and high school years, it is these three skill areas that greatly predict success.
