Requirements for fourth grade readers:

(1) Read the required book, The Trumpet of the Swan.
This book will be used for a novel study at the beginning of the school year.
Come prepared to discuss and write about the story.
(2) You are also required to read one other book of your choice from the
FRA Summer Reading List
(3) List the two books on the reading record which you may print at this link:

(4)Submit your reading record to your teacher on the first day of school in August.

Supersize it with optional reading:
Beyond these requirements, you are encouraged to do as much reading for pleasure as possible!
Please record additional books and magazines in the space provided on the reading record.

Student selections
For the required book which you may choose and for your other reading during the summer, select books that interest you!
Choose books that you can digest with comfort.
Try a variety of flavors: adventure, mystery, animal stories, biographies, fantasy, historical fiction, humor, nonfiction, realistic fiction, sports.

Parental guidance
Visit bookstores and libraries with your child.
Carve out a family or individual reading time every day.
Go beyond the requirements and share books on or off the menu with your child.  Picture books are happy meals for any age!
