Rising Seniors (2008-2009)
RE: Tablet Purchase Optional 2008-2009
The Fujitsu tablet has a standard 4-year warranty but only a 3-year damage protection warranty. The senior machines are entering their 4th year of deployment. The senior class has a choice whether to purchase the new tablet. However, it is very important to know that any and all physical damage will not be covered for seniors’ machines. In the event of physical damage (drops, spills, or screen damage), FRA will prepare a repair estimate. With your approval, we will then repair and charge you for the replacement parts. Labor will be provided without charge. Depending on how well your child has taken care of the current machine, you may want to consider purchasing the new machine which includes the new warranty cycle.
Questions & Answers:
1. Do I have to purchase a new machine for next year?
NO. However, you do have that choice.
2. What is the differences between the standard warranty and damage warranty?
Standard Warranty: Covers 4 years (which includes next year). Items covered would be motherboard failure, memory failure, CPU failure, hard drive failure, and any and all hardware failures. Example: The motherboard quits working due to no fault of the student.
Damage Warranty: Covers 3 years (would NOT cover next year). Items include spills, drops, screen damage. This covers your physical damage. Example: The motherboard quits due to OJ spilled on the machine.
3. Can't we purchase a 4th year damage warranty?
No. I tried 3 years ago and again this year. It is not an option. Even if it was an option, the cost would range from $350-$700 for the year.
4. What happens if we have physical damage?
We will inspect the machine and create a repair estimate for your review. We will not charge for labor and only for parts at our cost. Per your approval, you will then be charged for the repairs. We are very committed to being FAIR to each and every senior family. Consider the fact that you shouldn't have physical damage unless you have an accident. Although accidents do happen, you should be able to judge whether your child has a history of physical damage over the last three years. I will be happy to discuss with you your situation.
5. How much does physical damage cost?
That depends on the damage. A replacement keyboard is $10. A replacement motherboard due to a spill is about $350.00 depending on the damage. A screen replacement can be $800-$900. It MAY be possible for your homeowners insurance to cover MAJOR damage. Also, we will have limited used parts in stock to cut down on some costs. Lastly, we may also have limited used computers (same machine) to purchase in the event the repair costs are more than the machine is worth. Again, we are very committed to being FAIR to each and every senior family.
6. Will loaners still be available?
YES. We will still issue loaner machines to students for senior machines.
7. Can I purchase a new computer later if our machine has physical damage?
Yes. You can purchase at a later time if you wish.
8. Is there anything we need to do before the physical damage runs out?
YES. We will inform all of you via an email at the end of the term to get any and all of your physical damage repaired so that you begin the 4th year with a clean machine. However, note that normal wear and tear will not be considering physical damage. Example: You have stickers on the back of the screen.
