The Franklin Road Academy Dance Company welcomes Middle School and Upper School dancers, from beginning to advanced levels of technique, to audition. Once the company has been selected, dancers will rehearse in all genres of tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, and musical theatre.

The Fine Arts department is pleased to announce the continual growth of the dance program with a new dance instructor. Lisette Benefield will lead The Company, whose mission is to challenge dancers in genres of ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop; develop leadership and team building skills within each dancer; and represent FRA both on and off stage through character, choreography, and conduct.

Lisette Benefield
Lisette joined FRA arts department as the dance program instructor in 2016. She has a bachelor’s degree in dance education from the University of South Carolina and is an active member of the National Dance Education Organization, which promotes dance education in public and private educational school systems. She presented at National Dance Education Organization Convention in Miami and Minnesota. While dancing and working in South Carolina, she collaborated, organized, and produced two community dance workshops Rainbow Etude by Donald McKayle and a Hip Hop Workshop. Lisette has extensive training in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and spoken word, and she has choreographed and taught students in elementary, middle, and high school, most recently she taught at Vestavia High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Outside of the school setting, Lisette has also instructed at the Alabama Dance Academy, where she taught various skill levels, choreographed multiple pieces for the spring showcase, recitals, and summer intensives, and served as the rehearsal director of non-company dancers for the Moscow Ballet’s The Nutcracker.

She and her husband, James, moved to Nashville in 2016, and in her spare time, she enjoys needle pointing and hiking.
