Vocal Music

Franklin Road Academy's Choral/Vocal Music Department is a vibrant showcase of talented musicians. The students involved in FRA's Choral Music Department reflect the entire student body. Many of FRA's top academic students, athletes, and student government leaders have a common bond in exploring and enjoying vocal music. FRA students successfully compete individually in highly competitive regional and state events; approximately 150 students in grades 5-12 are involved in the program each year. Several of our graduates are currently studying and performing music in colleges throughout the country as vocal and performing arts majors.

FRA Choirs are frequently invited to perform in the greater Nashville community where they sang for the Nashville annual Christmas Tree lighting at the capitol, Christmas Open House at the Governor’s Mansion, and performed the National Anthem at a Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball Game. The Vocal Ensemble recorded a PBS special and opened for a renowned country music artist at the Ryman Auditorium.

Upper School Choirs also travel throughout the United States, having performed in New York City at St. John’s the Divine Cathedral, the Actor’s Chapel, on board a dinner cruise at the base of the Statue of Liberty, and at Festival Disney where they earned the “Gold Mickey” for the top score in the Concert Choir performance category! In 2011 the upper school choirs sang on the USS Missouri in Hawaii to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The 2013 spring tour included a trip to New Orleans, the birthplace of Dixieland Jazz, where our choirs sang in the beautiful St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter, enjoyed an outstanding jazz performance on board a steamboat dinner cruise, and experienced a moment of music history at a Preservation Hall concert.
