Varsity Boys Win Regional Tournament; Girls Finish Third

The varsity boys basketball team defeated USN 61-53 to win the TSSAA Division II Class A East/Middle Region Championship on Saturday. The Panthers were led by seniors Tyler Roop and Jack Doherty, who had 16 and 15 points, respectively. Roop was named to the All-Region Tournament Team, and Doherty was named MVP.

The girls beat The Kings Academy 82-54 to finish third in the Region. Senior Riley Casey led the way with 36 points, and junior Jesse Heldman finished with 16. Casey was named to the All-Region Tournament Team.

The girls will travel to Memphis to play the University School of Jackson on Friday in the first round of the TSSAA Sub-State Tournament. Time to be announced. The boys will host Rossville Christian Academy on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.

    The varsity baseball team used a last-inning comeback to defeat DCA 6-5 in the regional play-in game. Senior Will Frankenfield improved to 5-0 with the win, and sophomore J Ross earned his first save of the season. The Panthers scored three runs in the seventh inning, led by junior Whit Hagan, who had two hits and the tying and go-ahead RBIs in the top of the final inning. Sophomore Wakefield Thurmond added a hit and two RBIs, and sophomore Walker Palmerton had two doubles on the day.

    The Panthers improve to 16-10 on the season. FRA will play Davidson Academy in the regional semifinal game. Opponent and time are to be determined.

    The varsity boys soccer team defeated Ezell-Harding 6-0 Saturday to advance to the district finals and remain undefeated. The Panthers were led by Ryan Madondo, who had two goals, and Justin Cox and Jack Norris, who had one goal apiece.

    FRA will host BGA Tuesday for the district championship. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on The Hill.

  • Varsity Baseball Defeats Zion Christian to Place Third in District

    The varsity baseball team defeated Zion Christian Academy to earn third place in the district tournament. Sophomore J Ross earned his fourth victory of the season, scattering four hits on and striking out two in five innings. Ross also added two hits and four RBIs at the plate. The Panthers had 20 hits overall in the victory. Sophomore Walker Palmerton went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double, triple, and three RBIs; senior Ponder Thurmond and sophomore Wakefield Thurmond added three hits apiece; and senior Christian Drake added three hits, including a 3-run homerun.

    Thurmond, Drake, Palmerton, and Zach Walker were named to the 2017 All-District team.

    The Panthers will travel to DCA on Tuesday in the opening round of the region tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

  • Varsity Softball Falls to Davidson Academy; Defeats Zion Christian

    The varsity softball team had two division games this week, falling to Davidson Academy 14-0 on Wednesday before defeating Zion Christian Academy 4-3 on Thursday.

    In Wednesday's matchup, the Panthers were held to two hits. FRA bounced back on Thursday behind senior Taylor High's three hits and two RBIs. Senior Julianna Alexander pitched all seven innings, giving up three runs on four hits. Sophomore Grayson Dickens and junior Nicole West also had two hits apiece.

    The Panthers are back in action on Monday, when they host division foe Battle Ground Academy. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

  • Varsity Baseball Finishes Third in Yellow Jacket Classic

    The varsity baseball team finished third in the Yellow Jacket Classic over the weekend. The Panthers went 3-1 in the tournament, which was held in Chattanooga.

    Senior Christian Drake and freshman Dylan Gadsey were named to the all-tournament team. Drake batted .615 with eight hits and four RBIs, and Gadsey batted .545 with six hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs.

    The varsity baseball team defeated division foe Zion Christian Academy 8-4 on Monday. Walker Palmerton belted a home run and a double, and J Ross added two singles, and RBI, and a run to lead the Panthers. Will Frankenfield earned the win on the mound.

    FRA improves to 3-8 on the season. The Panthers will travel to Zion for the second half of the series on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

  • Varsity Softball Team Trounces St. Cecilia

    The varsity girls softball team improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating St. Cecilia Academy 21-2 on Thursday. Julianna Alexander continued her dominate pitching, allowing just two runs on one hit and striking out 10 in five innings. At the plate, Carrigan Corsi led the Panthers with four RBIs on three hits. Taylor High knocked in four runs, and Nicole West added three hits.

    FRA is back in action on Tuesday when they host Zion Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
