The winter sports season has been filled with outstanding accomplishments for FRA's student-athletes and coaches. We are proud of our teams' record and for the sportmanship they continue to display as examples for our younger students. As we conclude the winter sports season and head into a busy spring sports program, I encourage you to join us this evening for the Spring Sports Parent Meeting noted below. We look forward to partnering with you in the development of our students as athletes who continue to shine both on and off the field.

Senior Walter Burn signed with the East Tennessee State University track & field program on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in the FRA Upper School Auditorium. Walter is the fourth student-athlete to sign an NCAA Letter of Intent for College Athletics from the Class of 2012. Congratulations to Walter and his family on this great accomplishment!
Swim Team
FRA's swimmers participated in the Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championship State Meet on February 10 and 11 at the Centennial Sportsplex. Participating in the meet were Maggie Pope, Matt McPherson, Phillip Fossee, Nick Smith and John Crit Pope.
Three FRA swimmers in the top sixteen for the state. Swimming has no divisions; therefore, a swimmer's finish is an exact measurement of their placement in our state. We had one swimmer, Maggie Pope, who just missed the top eight and placed 9th in both the 200 free and the 100 back. Two FRA boys had top eight finishes in each of their events. Matt McPherson finished 6th in the 200 IM and 7th in the 400 free. Philip Fossee finished 3rd in the 100 free and 6th in the 50 free. These three are all juniors, so we look for them to be in the hunt next year as well.
All Region Swimmers: In addition to these great finishes, Philip Fossee was named to the All Region First Team; Maggie Pope and Matt McPherson were named to the all regional second team. Congratulation to Coach Nathan Phillips and the members of the swim team on representing FRA so well throughout the season!

Hockey
The 2011-2012 FRA/USN hockey team completed its best regular season in school history and won the regular season for the Blue Division of the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey league. The Panthers amassed a 16-3-2 record during the year. Their dominance on the ice can be seen in their dominance in the statistics. The Panthers were tied for a league best 109 goals in 21 games or just over 5 goals a game. The team was led by the top scorer in the league, Charlie Rubinowicz as well as one of the top scoring defenseman in the league, Chandler Premo. Defensively, they really excelled, giving up a league low 46 goals or just over 2 goals per game. The strong defensive corps was led by Chandler Premo, Alex Melin and Scott Looney. The Panthers also had 2 of the top 3 goal tenders in the league in Bo Korpman and Jon Rydburg. It is now playoff time for the Panthers in the single elimination “win or go home” tournament.
The team opens the playoffs against Hume Fogg/Beech on Wednesday February 29th at 8:10PM at A Game Sportsplex in Franklin. With a win, the Panthers will advance to the semi final round of the state championship tournament on Wednesday, March 7th at either A-Game or Centennial Sports Plex and the Championship game will be Friday, March 9th at Centennial Sports Plex at 7:05pm.
