The Environmental Revolution is here, and green is chic.  No longer is it hip to use plastic bottles…switch to the Nalgene bottle.  No longer is it in vogue to use any light bulbs…switch to compact fluorescents.  No longer is it cool to drive Hummers…switch to a Prius.  That’s right, one of the babies of the Green Revolution has been the hybrid car.  I have one that I love, and here are the top 5 reasons why:

    • Gas:  Okay it is the most obvious one, but it is a huge benefit.  Personally, I average 47 mpg which is twice as much at many of the cars my friends are driving.  Senior Nathan Kahre says, “I get 23mpg which I think is good, but it does not compare at all to the Prius.
    • Size:  When looking at Europe’s fuel efficient smart cars, one of the main concerns that people have about their use in America is their safety risk driving next to the huge cars typically driven in America.  “Smart cars are cute, but I would be too afraid to drive one in the U.S. with all the SUV’s,” says senior Arushi Gandhi.  The Prius, however, is a normal sized small car, and another fun fact: the Prius gets better gas mileage than the typical smart car.
    • Sound:  So this one may be unique to me, but I love that my car is quiet.  Some people may crave that loud, thunderous sound when they turn on the gas, but I prefer a more gentle approach.  Besides, it is perfect when you want to cruse around undetected.
    • HOV:  High Occupancy Vehicle lanes can be a real time saver, and guess what, I can use them even if I am the only person driving in my car.  I have a nifty little sticker on the back of my sweet ride that gives me privilege ordinary cars are denied.
    • Image:  Let’s face it, if you cut off my white Prius with Tinkerbelle on the antenna, you’re a jerk.  Prius’s make other people feel guilty that they are not doing more to help the environment.  “Whenever I see a Prius, I assume that the person who is driving it must be nice because they are helping the environment,” says senior Victoria Dodd.
