Each year, fall fashions are determined by New York’s Fashion Week in August. This year, the featured fashions were Cocoon coats, capes, military jackets, jean leggings ,chunky knits, leather, ripped clothing, asymmetrical styles, grey and black colors, over the knee boots, and see through.
Cocoon Coats: These coats have dramatic volume and a modern feel. Wear them with tights or leggings to avoid two baggy items paired together. This style is best on taller people.

Capes: Making a comeback from the 1940, capes, caplets, and stoles are a great way to stay warm and to show off your outfit at the same time. Unlike many other current trends, this is the first comeback for the cape.

Military jackets: Inspired by the King of Pop Michael Jackson, the military jacket is a very trendy item. Paired with leggings or tight pants, the military jacket becomes an outlet to show off your figure.

Jean leggings: This trend combines two things included in every girl’s wardrobe: jeans and leggings. The combination provides the allusion of wearing jeans while actually sporting spandex. They can be paired with any top or jacket considering jeans are neutral.

Chunky knits: Chunky knits bring a level of shocking texture to any look. They vary from scarves to jumpers and dresses. Depending on the item, chunky knits can accompany any look.

Leather: Leather is a hot item this year from leggings to dresses. Instead of pairing leather with black, try a bright color accent.

Ripped clothing: Classified as the era of “neo-grunge,” ripped jeans and tights are big on the runway in 2009. This 80’s trend is back in full force.

Asymmetrical styles: A trend all its own, asymmetrical clothing is new to 2009. Over the shoulder dresses speak for themselves; they are totally unique and diverse.

Grey and black colors: Reflective of the economic times, grey and black are big in 2009. Any item in these colors is appropriate for this season.

Over the knee boots: This fashion statement is difficult to pull off. Most appropriate for tall women, these boots can be paired with short skirts or dresses.

See through: Shears and overlay clothing, in any color, are a must for this season. Pattered or solid, see through clothing creates an allusion by adding depth and texture to an outfit.
