Finding Truth in Ugnada

The spiritual life committee is a newly formed group of students at the high school whose goal is to present Jesus in a new way. The group hopes to convert assemblies from a boring daily event to be endured to at the very least something students can walk away from with a new understanding of Christ. The daily announcements have been moved largely to e-mail freeing up time for a more Christian focused assembly. So far, the committee has used outside speakers, music, videos, and student presentations to spread the word of Christ. Junior Grayson Rosenberger says he hopes the committee can “lead people to a better understanding of Christ.” The first theme the committee focused on was the question “Who is Jesus?” Guest speaker Dixon Kinser gave a compact overview of the Old Testament to give people a better understanding of the world Jesus entered and the impact he made. This month’s theme is focusing on Jesus by moving away from worldly idols. Junior Malone Wayland gave an interesting presentation on how worldly idols can take away from our faith. She discussed how her knee kept her from sports and how this taught her that, to get through any trial, all it takes to endure is faith. A future month’s theme is going to be, “Where are you on your walk with Jesus?” This topic may have speakers similar to Coach Scott Oatsvall’s discussion of how bullying in school can impact someone even as an adult and how we should use Jesus as an example for our conduct. Sophomore Aditya Thawardas says that the assemblies are “a big improvement from last year.  It makes devotionals more bearable.” Senior Sam Collins says “I don’t mind the new assemblies, but I do miss students being able to make announcements.  Sometimes I forget to check the e-mail announcements.” Different people have different views about the new assemblies the committee has setup, but most will agree that they are an improvement over last year.
