Finding Truth in Ugnada

Okay.  It’s almost everyone’s favorite time of year: Halloween! Halloween has always been a cause for excitement for people of all ages. Don’t you just love it when you see a little kid running down your street in a superman outfit and that big chocolate-faced grin when he can barely get out the words “Trick or Treat!” because he is so out of breath? I know I, like him, can’t help but be excited with the candy, the pranks, and the parties. A holiday like this could never have a down side, right? Wrong. There is one problem we all have when this holiday rolls around, and that’s the idea for the costume! Sure the candy is great, but we all know the best thing about Halloween is that for a whole night we get to be whoever we want to be! Here, we have some of the spookiest, weirdest, and easiest ways to dress up and really make this night special.

1. Cat Burglar-Find black clothing, black pants, black shirt, black shoes, and anything that is dark. If you have a ski-mask, wear it, or you could always borrow your mom’s tights and tie them around your head. Then, carry a bag with a stuffed cat.

2. Cereal Killer- Make sure your clothes look messed up and really rough.  Buy some fake blood, or red food coloring, and put it all over your clothes.  Carry a fake knife and put cereal labels all over you.

3. “Pink Ladies” from Grease- If you want to get a group together, this is always a cute idea. Wear black leggings or tight black pants, black heels, tease your hair, and put it into a high pony tail. Then get a pair of black sunglasses, and if you can, try to go to a local costume store and find a Pink Ladies Jacket. If you can’t find one or afford one, you can find an old jacket and write Pink Ladies on the back and front.

4. Nerd- This is probably one of the easiest costumes ever. Just get clothes that are a little snug on you, preferably a button down shirt and pants you can pull up really high. Button the shirt all the way up, and roll the pants up over a pair of long white socks. If your grandpa has any prescription shoes, borrow them, and if he doesn’t, find an old pair of dress shoes that you don’t use much anymore. Gel your hair back, and add fake zits with a marker.

5. Stood up Prom Date- This is probably one of the most fun costumes for a girl. If you had a formal dance anytime soon (Homecoming), use the dress you wore then if you can. Smear your makeup, especially your mascara, all over your face to make it look like you’ve been crying. Mess your hair up, and stick various tissues out of different parts of your dress.

6. Jailbird- This costume will definitely make you stand out in a crowd. Take a regular criminal costume, and attach a pair of bird or angel wings onto the back. Paint feathers on your face and glue some to different parts of your costume to make you seem extra bird-like.

7. Scarecrow- This costume is fun for people who are a little mischievous and like scaring people. Dress up in all black clothes, and try to find a bird mask and black bird wings. If you can’t find bird wings, take a black sheet and glue feathers all over it. When you’re trick-or-treating, walk with your back hunched and flap your “wings” to really scare people.

8. Michael Jackson through the years- Get a group of friends together, and put together outfits from Michael Jackson’s greatest music videos, appearances, performances, etc. When you meet other people, break out your best “Thriller” moves.

9. The Ghost of Marie Antoinette- If you don’t mind lots of make-up, girls, this is a really fun costume. Find an old, fancy costume dress with lots of petticoats and lace. Style your hair into a tall up-do. Put on white stage makeup anywhere the dress shows skin and smear eyeliner under your eyes to look ghostly and, let’s not forget the head! Since Marie had her head chopped off, find a canvas bag and stuff it with something soft, and paint the bottom and sides blood red.

10. Santa Claus- If you’re looking for something really unusual, this is it. While there are plenty of Santa costumes around, some stores might not have them currently in stock. If that’s the case, find a fake white beard and hair, black boots, and a cheap red coat and pants. Trim the sleeves and hems with white feather boas, and stuff the coat with pillows or something fluffy. Saying, “Merry Christmas!” is optional.
