By: Madison Dalton Although the soccer team did not get as far as the state championship, they did have a terrific year. The team was held together by three seniors consisting of: starting forward Morgan Crawford, starting defender Morgan Alexander, and starting defender Sophie Walker, who helped Franklin Road Academy’s high school soccer girls win District. This game was a nail biter, but if you happened to miss it, the game was tied 2-2 going into two 10 minute overtimes. It was still scoreless moving into two five minute halves, with FRA finally winning in penalty kicks with Mariah Canady saving a huge PK. After being division II-A champs, the girls headed into quarterfinals for state as the number one ranked team in division II-A east. The quarterfinal game was a hard played game against University School of Jackson. Although FRA lost 5-1, the outcome didn't undermine the great season that took place this 2009 year. This year the girls soccer team moved to district Division II-A keeping up great competition but with different competitors. This past season, the team went 10-5-4 in the regular season games. This past season was a great and exciting one with such a young team, and hopefully next year, the excitement will continue. |
