Storm Front, Book 1 of the Dresden Files Series by Jim Butcher, is an interesting, to say the very least, book.  Harry Dresden, the protagonist, is a wizard who works as a private investigator in Chicago.  He is the best at what he does because he is the only one who does it.  In Storm Front, Harry is called in by the Chicago Police Department to the scene of a gruesome double murder committed by dark magic.  Harry needs to find out who committed the murders before the White Council, the Wizards’ governing body, decides to kill Harry for them.  Written with a unique type of humor, Storm Front is a guaranteed laugh.  “I shook my head, bewildered. They say we wizards are subtle. But believe me, we’ve got nothing, nothing at all, on women.”
