Go As Far As the Eye Can See
By: Bridgit Bowden
Shortly after graduating college, David Brill “craved excitement” in his life. He definitely got his fair share of excitement when he hiked the entire 2,100 miles of the Appalachian Trail in one summer. Ten years later, he recorded the details of this incredible adventure in his book As Far As the Eye Can See which every Franklin Road Academy high school student read over the summer.
On August 24, 2009, Brill came to FRA to speak to the students of the high school about his book. He inspired each person to try adventure. He said that, even though hiking may not be the right adventure for everyone, “There are as many adventures as there are people.” Backpacking through Europe, building water sources in Africa, and working for Habitat for Humanity are only a few of the adventures Brill suggested.
Here at FRA, some students have reservations and fears about leaving the comforts of their lives. To these students, Brill recommends starting slowly, finding a “guide” or expert of your chosen adventure, and training.
So, I now encourage you to follow Brill’s example and find your adventure. Conquer your fears and go As Far As the Eye Can See.
