History is the past, and a glimpse of the future. Many historians say that history will repeat until we learn from our mistakes, but it isn’t only mistakes that are repeated in our history, but also advances. Looking back on the 2000 decade one may first think of our black president, Barack Obama, who made a huge impact in America like the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. They both symbolize a huge step in truly having equality through out all types of people like our country was built upon.
The 60s revival in the 2000s is also displayed through our culture as well as our history. The 2000s television has had an invasion of many reality television shows like The Hills, Real World, and many others. Real life television and real life ideas over took the family value shows like the Andy Griffith Show and other comedies in the late 1960s. The 2000s decade fashion hinted pieces of clothing made popular during the 1960’s including the Mod look that included oversized sunglasses and purses as long as miniskirts and the use of neon like in the 60s. This decade has also been impacted by the 60’s through music. Many “oldies” became the latest fad like the Beatles who are beginning to relive their prime years with a new Guitar Hero Beatles style.
The 2000s seems to look a lot like the 1960s with its fashion, music, and ideas. As 2000 decade comes to an end, I wonder what will the next decade bring us a revival of the 1910’s and the Great Depression? Goodbye or should I say “peace out” like in the 60s.
