Over the years, music in general has changed and adapted to modern culture. This is not deniable, but many have differing opinions over whether music has changed for better or worse. However, if you ask me, I say that music, again generally speaking, has become a mainstream flow of thoughtless lyrics that have no emotion and is sometimes just a beat to dance to. The musical talent of certain players has always spoken to me, but when I turn on the radio, I am bombarded with electronic sounds and a person mindlessly speaking into a microphone, digitally enhanced.
Although this may seem subjective to what is now considered rap music, this applies to Alternative, Rock, and Pop pieces too. Lovers of classic bands such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, the Black Crowes, the Cure, and the Beatles will be appalled at what is being played at parties nowadays. While a song about a girl dancing may sound catchy at first, it later appears that there is no meaning behind it. It almost seems as though musicians are not about the passion anymore but just the money and the fame. If it sounds decent, then slap it down on a piece of paper and you’ve got yourself a hit single.
Another hindrance to music is young musicians. While, almost all of the young musicians put on the radio are very talented, most just seem like they are not ready for it yet. If one looks back to the 60s and 70s, they will see that musicians and vocalists trained and practiced for years before they formed their own band and made it to the big time. One such great example of a modern young musician band is The Jonas Brothers. While some people may disagree, these three boys have true potential in the musical world but appear to have sloppy, hollow, or even superficial songs mainly because of their age. Even if one says that they’ve been training for 10 years and they are now 18, they will not be as talented as someone who has been training for 10 years and is now 48.
The maturity level needs to be higher and people need to grow more in their musical abilities until they can actually play a good concert or have a real hit single on the radio. Although the style of music may change from time to time, emotions and feeling should never leave songs. Also, another problem is that a lot of bands are branded into one genre of music. This should not be the case because if someone is subjective to a certain genre of music, he or she cannot experience all the other talented musicians and what they have to offer.
