In 2000 the top song of the year was “Breathe” by Faith Hill. This song is now on her Hits album and continues to be a popular song today.
The top song of 2001 was “Lady Marmalade” with lead vocalist Cristina Aguilera. This was one of her first hits, and she has made a great name for herself throughout this decade. People loved her melodious voice and rocking attitude.
“A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton was the number one song in 2002. It was on her album Be Not Nobody, which was released on April 30th of 2002.
In 2003 “Crazy in Love” was at the top of the charts. Beyoncé Knowles was the lead vocalist, and the back up vocalist was Jay-Z. Both of these talented artists have had wonderful careers throughout this decade.
“The Reason” by Hoobastank was the top song of 2004. Hoobastank is no longer a band that is very popular. They lived their glory days in the early 2000s. The may no longer be popular, but their legacy will live on forever.
Mariah Carey is a very talented artist and in 2005 her song “We Belong Together” was the top song of the year. She has a very wide vocal range, and she continues her career today.
“Bad Day” by Daniel Powter was the top song in 2006. It was a very sweet and uplifting song that was sung very beautifully. Daniel Powter was a sort of one hit wonder, but his one hit was very memorable.
“Hey There Delilah” was the top song of 2007. It was sung by the Plain White Ts. This song was very overplayed but very fun to listen to. They continue to have success with their more recent song “1,2,3,4.”
In 2008 the top song was “Single Ladies“by Beyonce Knowles. This song emerged at the end of 2008. The music video was a candidate for best music video at the MTV music video awards. This song continues to be popular.
In 2009 the top song is “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-z featuring Alicia Keys. Their song embodies everything that New York is about and how inspiring it is.
