Cindy Thornton
Head Coach
Cindy has been distance running for the last 20 years, completing 13 full marathons and numerous half marathons. She has been the LS head coach from the inaugural season four years ago, prior to that she coached MS cross country and MS track.
She attended Middle Tennessee State University for undergrad and to obtain her Administrative certification. She attended Trevecca University for her masters in curriculum and her doctorate in Leadership and Best Practices.
She has been teaching art at FRA for 14 years, and has 2 sons who are also FRA panthers. Cindy currently serves as the Director of the Fine and Performing Arts at FRA and teaches numerous art classes in all levels.
Mary Barnes
Assistant Coach
Mary Sentell is one of the Assistant Coaches of the Franklin Road Academy Lower School Cross Country team. For the past four years, she has been a Girls On The Run Coach for her previous elementary school in Sumner County. She enjoys encouraging young runners to persevere, have grit, and grown in confidence.
Mary graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2011 with a Bachelors Degree in Child and Family Studies and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She was apart of the University of Tennessee Dance Company and enjoyed playing intramural sports with her fun group of friends all throughout college. She previously taught in Sumner County Schools for seven years. Mary currently serves as a First Grade teacher.
Julianne Robinson
Assistant Coach
Julianne is originally from Tallahassee, Florida. She attended Auburn University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. After teaching for 3 years in South Georgia, she then went on to receive her Masters from Vanderbilt University in Reading Education. In 2015, she began teaching at Eakin Elementary in MNPS and remained there for 5 years. This will be Julianne’s second year at FRA teaching 4th grade and coaching LS Cross Country. She’s excited to become even more immersed in the FRA Family and Culture this year!
Kathryn Lewis
Assistant Coach
Kathryn Lewis joined the FRAmily in 2021 and teaches PreK 4.
She has four children and her youngest daughter is thrilled to be part of the Heart to Heart program.
She studied art and French at Millsaps College and received a Master of Arts in Art Education from the University of Alabama and PhD in Art Education from Penn State. She loves working with clay and all kinds of museums and folk art.
She enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking and and is working toward getting her family to as many National Parks as possible.
