HALEY JOBE
Mentor Teacher: Caitlin Maguire
Upper School Latin
Current Title: Lipe Leadership Fellow at Duke Divinity School
Haley Jobe, a 2020 Davidson College graduate and Richmond, VA native, graduated with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy with an emphasis on Classical Studies and Languages. Throughout her time at Davidson College, Haley was involved in many aspects of her community by serving in the offices of Admissions and Financial Aid, Athletics, and Student Activities, as well as, Davidson United Methodist Church. She enjoys mentoring others and is looking forward to serving her students not only in the Latin classroom, but also on the volleyball court, softball field, and in debate/public speaking competitions. When she isn’t in the classroom, Haley enjoys reading, yoga, and cooking anything found in an Ina Garten cookbook.

“I enjoyed the relationships that I cultivated with my students, advises, and teams the most! Interacting with students on a daily basis and providing them a safe space to grow into the individuals God created them to be has been my absolute favorite part of my experience. The biggest strength of the fellows program is the ability for fellows to be integrated right away into the FRA community. I felt like I was part of the team from the beginning! Whether it was coaching, working with my department, or helping with convocation, I felt like I was making tangible contributions to my work community."

Mentor Teacher: Sonia Higdon
Upper School Science
Current Title: Physics Teacher and Robotics Coach at The Harpeth Hall School
As a Christian and proud Appalachian, Matthew’s enthusiasm for both faith and science led him to study physics and religion at the College of William & Mary in Virginia in 2016, followed by a Master of Divinity at Vanderbilt in 2019. He looked forward to helping FRA students talk about how science fits into their faith, both in the physics classroom and as an assistant on boys’ and girls’ soccer and the robotics team. His wife Sarah is a cancer researcher at Vanderbilt. They enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, playing with their dog Millie, and praying for the US Men's soccer team to make the World Cup in 2022.
matthew reflects:
“What I enjoyed most about the program was the opportunity for me to gain significant teaching experience while still receiving a salary. Without this position I wouldn't have been as competitive an applicant for the full-time teaching job I got for next year, and I would certainly be less prepared. Closely studying and collaborating with a master teacher for a full year is a unique opportunity, and it's been an incredible growth period for me."
RALSTON HARTNESS
Mentor Teacher: Zachary Virgin
Upper School History
Current Title: Bible Teacher at Christ Presbyterian Academy
A 2018 graduate of Washington and Lee University, Ralston has spent countless hours leading and serving adolescents inside middle- and high-school classrooms. Ralston also enjoys encouraging and challenging students beyond the classroom, whether he is leading Young Life expeditions in the West Virginia backcountry or creating programming for residential life at Washington & Lee. You can often find Ralston enjoying an old book or writing and playing his own music. He was excited to apply those passions to the middle school performing arts program, where he assisted along with coaching cross country and track.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the balance of teaching and learning as a Faculty Fellow. The teaching load makes observations, professional development reading, collaborative planning, and exploration very feasible. Coming from my first teaching job in which I taught many classes with only one planning period, the schedule this year deepened and broadened my content knowledge and exposure to other skilled practitioners in this community. The experience, education, and insight of learning from my colleagues as a Faculty Fellow will continue to be impactful."
MACIE GRISSOM
Mentor Teacher: Stephanie Feyes
Upper School Science
Current Title: Biology Teacher at Ravenwood High School
Macie grew up in a small town outside of Salt Lake City, Utah, before moving to New England to attend college. Macie graduated from Mount Holyoke College in May 2020, studying biology and education, earning her initial teaching license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is looked forward to discussing the wonder of the natural world in the biology classroom and bringing her joyful energy to the cross country, cheerleading, and track and field teams. In her free time, Macie enjoys spending time outdoors, running and hiking, cooking plant-based meals, and traveling home to Utah to spend time with her family.

“Faculty Fellows are truly assimilated into permanent faculty members, creating an honest and representative experience of career educators. I enjoyed having the opportunity to be involved with several extracurricular activities, gaining coaching experience, and building relationships with students in a division that is different from where I teach. I think that the Fellows program assists new educators or prospective educators in their decision-making; whether it be grade level preferences, or if teaching is a good fit for them."
