Last week, our upper school students seized the day with their production of Disney’s Newsies. After running November 11-13, 2021, the story of Newsies highlighted a story of dedication, grit, and triumph among a group of creative young people. The same story could be told for each student on the stage. Each cast and crew member worked tirelessly to pull off an amazing production.
Newsies takes place on a hot, New York summer night in 1899, with the symbolic act of overturning a distribution wagon, thousands of corner newsboys and newsgirls went on strike against the two largest newspapers in the country: Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World and William Randolph Hearst’s New York Journal. Lasting about two weeks, mobs of these kids filled the streets of Manhattan and prevented circulation of the papers.
Putting on a production takes commitment, drive, and energy. We’re so proud of the work the cast and crew put in over the past few months to really make this show come to life and jump from the script. The countless hours of rehearsals, memorizing lines, and learning each character was so evident as the curtain opened.
Congratulations to the Newsies cast and crew on such an amazing production! Bravo
